What was done
Static recompilation of Mega Man 3 (NES) for native PC using the NESRecomp framework. The project is a work-in-progress development preview with functional basic gameplay, but boss fights, passwords, and special weapons remain untested.
The Megaman3NESRecomp project performs static recompilation of the original Mega Man 3 NES ROM into native x64 machine code. The process translates 6502 machine code into C at build time, while the NES PPU, APU, and mapper are simulated by a runner library. The project serves as a proving ground for the NESRecomp framework. Development commits credit Claude Opus 5 and Claude Fable 5 for co-authoring contributions. Current functionality includes the title screen, menu navigation, robot master stage selection, and basic stage movement. Known limitations include untested boss fights, passwords, and special weapons, which may cause softlocks. Audio remains in a basic state with APU register writes captured but incomplete mixing. The project is a work-in-progress preview and not a finished port.
Reproduce it
Clone the repository, run setup.bat or setup.sh to initialize submodules, and build using CMake 3.20+ and Visual Studio 2022. The executable requires a Mega Man 3 (USA) ROM to function.
