Mega Man X Recompiled is a native PC port of the SNES title that adds co-op, playable Zero, and widescreen support. The project uses a shared framework for host presentation and includes contributions from Claude Opus 5.5 for features like Player 2 Learner Mode.
Mega Man X Recompiled is a project that ports the SNES title Mega Man X to native Windows and Linux. The project implements a shared framework for host presentation, utilizing cached HLE frame composition by default on Windows x64 to optimize performance. Users can opt for a correctness-reference compositor by configuring a separate Release build with LLE, though this may reduce performance. The project supports features including adaptive widescreen, playable Zero, and two-player online netplay with rollback. Co-op mode allows X and Zero to play simultaneously with independent health and weapon energy. A Player 2 Learner Mode is available, which prevents the second player from taking damage or dying. The project includes contributions from Claude Opus 5.5, specifically regarding the implementation of Learner Mode and renderer adjustments. The project documentation notes that foreign compiler activity limits precision in performance measurements. Users must provide their own USA Rev 1 ROMs for the base game and optional X2/X3 mods. Further details on current limitations are documented in the project's co-op validation notes. See the project repository for full documentation.
Reproduce it
Download the latest release from the project GitHub. Extract the files and run the launcher. Select a valid Mega Man X (USA) (Rev 1) ROM. Configure controls and enable desired mods in the launcher before starting the game.
