What was done

erreib used a Claude session as planner and reviewer, with Claude subagents doing briefed tasks, to recompile Wipeout Pure. The port runs the full single-player game with Metal and Vulkan graphics and compares its frames with PPSSPP.

erreib made pure-recomp, a native port of Wipeout Pure (PSP, 2005) for Apple Silicon Macs and Windows, built by static recompilation of the game's code. The README says the port was planned, mapped and reviewed by a Claude session, with briefed tasks carried out by Claude subagents.

How it was done

Every task is a file in the repository with its verification command, its result and its review, and a decisions log records the choices. Reverse engineering used Ghidra with the ghidra-allegrex PSP processor module, PPSSPP as the reference for what the PSP does, and the pspautotests suite for hardware rules. The port builds on the PortableKit framework, vendored and changed only through patches, and adds the game's profile, a Metal backend and test tooling. The port's checks compare its frames with PPSSPP captures and the differences found are fixed or explained in a fidelity document.

Results

The README lists the complete single-player game, with every mode, class, league and circuit, plus movies, music and sound. PSP saves import and export, and the original download packs can be installed. Options include display resolution, ultrawide, 60 fps in some modes and a display-rate race mode, each one choice away from original behavior. The repository holds no game data, and players supply their own US Greatest Hits disc image.
