What was done
cstout816 used ChatGPT Codex to translate Steel Battalion's Xbox code into a Windows build. It builds and runs guest code but has not reached the title screen.
This repository explores static recompilation of Steel Battalion (Xbox, 2002) into a Windows application, with a goal of supporting the original 40 button controller. The README says most of the research, code and documentation were produced with ChatGPT Codex. It is experimental and there is no playable build.
How it was done
The foundation is the xboxrecomp project, which translates Xbox x86 code ahead of time. The work adds analysis of the XBE file, naming of kernel imports, a Windows runtime for Xbox services and a Direct3D 11 graphics path. The tracker separates engineering work from features players can use. The repository will not include the ISO, XBE or any game assets.
Results
The tracker lists the XBE format, sections and libraries as mapped, all 123 kernel import ordinals named and 9,148 functions emitted, with a local Windows build that completes. 251 of 351 unresolved call targets are implemented, but 243 unsupported instruction sites are unresolved. A corrected run executes the guest audio DSP programs and reaches a graphics surface clear, then stalls. The title screen is not verified.
