JackandBeans built Snap64 Recomp, a Windows, Linux, Steam Deck and macOS port of Pokémon Snap made with Claude Code on top of the community decompilation and N64: Recompiled.
JackandBeans made Snap64 Recomp, a native PC port of Pokémon Snap (N64, US) for Windows, Linux, Steam Deck and macOS. The README says it was made with Claude Code: the author decides what the port does, tests it on his PC and Steam Deck and turns player reports into releases, and Claude writes the code, tools and documentation in directed sessions.
How it was done
N64: Recompiled reads the game's code from the player's ROM and writes it out as C at build time, with none of that output kept in the repository. RT64 draws the display lists through Direct3D 12 or Vulkan, and the port adds its own window, input, audio, settings and menu code. Where game behavior had to change, such as a Graphics page, a new title entry and an intro camera fix, each changed function is a copy of its decompiled source, compiled with the decompilation's own IDO toolchain and loaded over the original. Commits made this way name the model in their Co-Authored-By line.
Results
Out of the box the port plays like the cartridge. Optional features, all off until chosen, include widescreen, higher frame rates, mouse and gyro aim, button rebinding, fast forward, photo export and printing support for the Snap Station. The repository has more than 500 commits and tagged releases. It ships no game assets, and only the US cartridge ROM works. The code is GPL-3.0.
