What was done
Both program ROMs of the 1996 Neo Geo golf game recovered as readable assembly, rebuilt to the original SHA-256, with 582 verified tests.
This is a byte-exact, fully classified decompilation and recompilation of Neo Turf Masters, also known as Big Tournament Golf, by Nazca for the Neo Geo. It targets the 200- ROM set. To the authors knowledge it is the first public byte-exact decompilation of a Neo Geo game. Its two published commits both list Claude Code as co-author.
How it was done
Extraction verifies the nine files and undoes the emulator word swap. Ghidra produced per function listings in a companion workspace with unidasm as an independent decoder, and custom tools covered the remaining bytes by classifying each byte as code, consumer-evidenced data, proven fill or proven dead. A closed-world reachability proof, naming invariants and MAME acceptance form the verification gate, and classification tables are reviewable one line claims kept separate from the sources.
Results
All 2,097,152 bytes of the 68000 game program and all 131,072 bytes of the Z80 sound driver are classified, with zero unknown bytes and zero open evidence items. The rebuilt images match the original full image SHA-256, and a 582 item test suite passes. 4,902 bytes are proven dead. The repository ships a MIT license with a ROM content carve out and distributes no ROM images.
