What was done

CmdrLucid Project-Friday statically recompiles the 1992 action RPG with genrecomp, with Claude writing every line and the human testing on a real Steam Deck. Only the US ROM is supported.

Project-Friday, named after Nigel fairy companion, statically recompiles Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole for Mega Drive to native code with the genrecomp tool. The README is explicit about authorship: all code is written by Claude through Claude Code, and CmdrLucid provides ideas, decisions and testing on a real Steam Deck, with many commits carrying a Co-Authored-By: Claude line. Exactly one ROM is supported, the US release, checked by SHA-1 at every start, and nothing from the game is committed.

How it was done

genrecomp is downloaded and patched, the host build applies the labels of a community disassembly for code and data boundaries and table offsets from a data documentation project to ground the work. Genesis Plus GX, with Musashi inside, emulates the console chips and is patched for widescreen, filters, sound mixing and timing, so built games must stay non-commercial under its terms. The workflow keeps automated checks: RAM dumps compared against the reference emulator core and replay runs, so results are measured rather than assumed, and limits of what AI alone can verify are documented openly.

Results

The main branch is the last state verified on a Steam Deck and development continues on a dev branch. The launcher, tools and recompilation work through the game from your own copy, with symbol budgets, handoff documents and lessons logged for other agents or people to continue. A European version is a possible later step, and bug reports carry the repository forward.
