IntelliFire ESP32 Replacement

What was done

An ESP32/ESPHome replacement for the IntelliFire Wi-Fi module that documents the protocol and includes firmware and capture/replay tests.

This project replaces the stock IntelliFire Wi-Fi Module used by some Heat & Glo appliances with an ESP32 running ESPHome firmware. The board connects to the appliance control module's eight-pin Wi-Fi port and implements its polled serial protocol. It exposes flame, pilot, and flame-height state to Home Assistant and can publish diagnostic telemetry over MQTT.

The repository documents how the module communicates, including captured and replayed protocol frames. Its controls report the state received from the appliance rather than assuming a requested command succeeded. It also describes bounded retries and fault reporting, plus preserving a requested flame height while the burner is off. The fireplace's existing control module remains responsible for ignition, flame sensing, and the gas valve.

The author presents this as a DIY low-voltage interface, not a certified appliance control or a safety device. The README stresses that loss of Wi-Fi or the home-automation services should not be treated as a safety mechanism; the original wall keypad and RF remote remain manual controls. The repository contains firmware, protocol notes, and test tooling for people evaluating the same hardware.
