What was done
Claude Code worked out how to light only the RGB ring of a Govee H60A4 ceiling light over the local network, by sending test patterns and reading frames from phone videos, and the result is a Home Assistant integration.
raulpetruta wanted the RGB ring of a Govee H60A4 ceiling light to be controllable on its own from Home Assistant. Claude Code worked out how by sending test patterns to the lamp and reading frames from phone videos of the ceiling. The result is a local integration with a separate Ring light entity.
How it was done
Home Assistant's built-in Govee integrations expose one light, so any colour lit the whole lamp. Claude could not see the ceiling, so it sent test patterns and asked the author to record a video. Each test started with a 5-second red flash so Claude could line its commands up with the recording. It pulled frames from each clip, worked out which zone was which and kept changing the protocol until the ring lit on its own. The author says he read no packet dump and opened no debugger. Claude also used REA to read the Govee Android app. Claude Opus 5.5 planned each step and Claude Sonnet 5.5 implemented it. Notes from the SignalRGB and OpenRGB communities showed that the lamp supports DreamView streaming.
Results
The lamp takes a 20-zone streaming frame on its LAN API. Zones 0 to 18 are the ring and zone 19 drives the panel. The integration resends the frame every 25 seconds to keep streaming on. A short section at the top of the ring stays dark because the firmware ties it to the panel zone. It was tested only on the H60A4, on the firmware versions named in the README.
