What was done

WadeWinningWilson is decompiling Devil May Cry 3 for the PS2 so that C and C++ compile with the original compilers to a byte-identical executable, with an AI assistant writing much of the code.

This is a work-in-progress matching decompilation of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening for the PlayStation 2. The README states that much of the current code was written with an AI assistant (Claude).

How it was done

The C and C++ in the source folder compile back to a byte-identical copy of the original executable, using the original compilers. The repository contains no game code, assets or assembly. The build disassembles the user's own copy locally. The README says this is not and will not become a PC port. The USA version (SLUS-20964) is the primary target. The Japan executable relinks byte-identically from assembly and shares about 98.7% of its code with USA, and the Korea and Europe versions are identified.

Results

Each build prints progress and writes a progress file. The README reports 17.45% of the code matched in bytes (game code 18.29%, libraries 12.48%) and 8,488 of 14,722 functions (57.66%). CI only checks that everything compiles, because it has no game files.
