CBE DS-300 motorhome panel: Reverse engineered a motorhome control panel for an ESPHome replacement

What was done

An AI-assisted replacement touch panel for a CBE DS-300 motorhome system, built around an ESP32-P4, ESPHome and LVGL. The author reverse-engineered connector 17, checked the pinout on one van and reports the installation in daily use; other vehicles are unverified.

This project replaces the small CBE PC-100/PC-200/PC220 motorhome panel with a 10.1-inch ESP32-P4 touch screen. The original DS-300 distribution unit remains in place; the replacement communicates through the existing panel cable and adds a Home Assistant interface.

How it was done

The author says Claude Code searched CBE documentation and forums, planned measurements, wrote firmware and CAD scripts, helped flash the panel and drafted the documentation. The human author performed the electrical measurements and checked the installation on the actual van. The repository includes connector documentation, firmware and 3D-printable parts.

Results

On the author’s Elnagh Prince 55L, the panel provides 12 V and pump controls, temperature readings, a grey-water alarm and a larger Home Assistant dashboard for lights, battery, water, climate and vehicle information. The pinout and installation have only been validated on that vehicle; other DS-300 installations may differ. The author warns that this touches a vehicle’s 12 V system, calls for checking the pinout on the specific vehicle and notes that the replacement does not preserve the original low-voltage cutoff. Follow the repository’s electrical disclaimer before attempting any hardware work.

Reproduce

This is a hardware-specific reference design, not a plug-and-play kit. Review the repository’s wiring, parts, firmware and vehicle disclaimer, then adapt it to the exact DS-300 installation. The author reports ESPHome 2026.6.4, LVGL 9 and a Guition JC8012P4A1C panel. No generic compatibility claim is made beyond the single tested van.

setup
The repository includes the full firmware, hardware notes, connector reference and printable parts. It describes an ESP32-P4/ESP32-C6 panel running ESPHome and LVGL with Home Assistant. The author says Claude Code helped with research, firmware and CAD, while the author performed the measurements and verified the hardware on one van. This is specific to that installation; follow the repository’s vehicle electrical disclaimer and verify any vehicle-specific wiring independently.
