Automated the Blinx 2 static recompilation build: your own Xbox disc image becomes a native Windows game

What was done

Blinx2Setup checks the toolchain, extracts your own disc image, clones the recompilation and builds it, in about 30 minutes, all planned with Claude.

A one-click Windows setup takes a player from their own Blinx 2 disc image to a native build of the Xbox game. The recompilation workspace it builds records Claude Opus 5.5 as co-author on effectively every commit.

How it was done

The setup script checks the machine for Git, CMake, Visual Studio 2022 with the C++ tools, a Windows SDK, Python 3 and the Visual C++ redistributable, and installs only the missing pieces with winget, asking before anything runs. It verifies the disc is the North American release, extracts the image with xdvdfs and a pinned SHA-256, clones the recompilation repository with its submodules, runs the five documented recompiler steps in an isolated Python environment, then compiles the game with CMake and MSBuild. Nothing of the game is downloaded or bundled: the recompiled code is generated on the player machine from their own disc.

Results

The README reports about 30 minutes on a recent PC, about 25 on a 32 thread machine where the recompiler took 7 minutes and the compile 17, and about 4.5 GB on disk. Each step shows progress and a time estimate. The tool writes the game directory setting, creates desktop and Start menu shortcuts, and leaves an update and repair entry in the Start menu.
