What was done

PotionDweller Azure Dreams port runs the Konami PS1 game from code recompiled with psxrecomp, adding 16:9, 4x resolution, PGXP and fast loading. Claude did the reverse engineering for all of it.

PotionDweller Azure Dreams HD Recompilation turns the 1997 Konami RPG into a native Windows program built on the psxrecomp framework and its recomp-ui launcher. The README credits Claude working through Claude Code with the reverse engineering, the debugging and the code, and says every change was tested in game by the owner. The repository contains no game data: players bring their own disc and the release script refuses to package anything it should not.

How it was done

Claude traced the running game code and memory to find what the enhancements needed and wrote the findings up for reuse: the camera view rectangle that decides which terrain is drawn, the HUD position table, the dungeon minimap drawing routine and clip window, and the screen-edge culling checks, each with the debug commands used to find it. The wide view, HUD moves and loading speed-ups live in a widescreen mod plugin and framework patches, and the build generates game code only from the disc you own, with overlay captures kept local and never committed.

Results

The launcher offers two presets: HD, with 16:9 widescreen, four times internal resolution, perspective-correct textures, smoothed movies and loading in about two to three seconds instead of seventeen to twenty-two, and Original, which keeps the PlayStation look at 4:3 and the original speed. Fast loading also covers in-game saves and loads. Movie smoothing, borderless fullscreen, controller and keyboard play and per-preset settings memory are all covered, and docs/FINDINGS.md invites others to reuse the memory addresses and values for their own experiments.
