About PSXRecomp
PSXRecomp is a static-recompilation framework designed to port PlayStation 1 games to native desktop environments. It translates MIPS R3000A binaries into C code, which is then compiled into a native executable linked against a low-level (LLE) hardware runtime. The framework utilizes a tiered execution model: ahead-of-time (AOT) sharding for known overlays, a recompiled BIOS foundation (supporting OpenBIOS or retail BIOS), and a transient MIPS interpreter fallback for uncompiled code. Ports built with PSXRecomp can implement modern enhancements such as adaptive widescreen, higher-resolution rendering, and netplay. The framework is architected as a root-level submodule for game-specific projects, which must provide their own disc validation and game-specific logic. While the initial prototype involved AI assistance, the standard setup for creating ports is documented as not requiring AI.
