What was done
flossbud built a static recompilation of Wind Waker HD with Claude coding agents. The PowerPC code becomes C++ with a Vulkan renderer, and the whole game is playable on Linux at 30 and 60 fps.
WWHDRecomp is a native static recompilation of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD for the Wii U. The README says it was built incrementally with AI coding agents (Claude).
How it was done
The game's PowerPC code is translated to C++ ahead of time and runs natively on Linux with a Vulkan renderer and SDL3 for the window, sound and controllers. For 60 fps the game's own logic runs 60 times a second, and each actor is checked frame by frame against the original 30 fps behaviour. It is not frame interpolation. The user supplies their own dump of the USA v0 game, and no game code or assets are included.
Results
The README calls it a developer preview with the whole game playable on Linux (x86-64). All 450 or so actor types are converted for true 60 fps. At 30 fps the recompiled game matches a deterministic reference emulator bit for bit in OS calls, GPU command streams and sound. Handheld-class CPUs such as the Steam Deck do not hold 60 fps yet. There is no packaged release, so it is built from source.
