What was done
A byte-matching decompilation of the 2000 Square classic, aiming at interoperation with modern hardware and bug fixes, funded by the community tooling of the decomp scene.
Rood Reverse is a matching decompilation of Vagrant Story for the PlayStation. Its decomp.dev badge reports 76.5 percent overall code progress, and a quarter of its sampled commits list Claude Opus 5.5 as co-author.
How it was done
The project follows the established PS1 decompilation stack: splat splits the disc image, code is matched against the original compiler with maspsx and old GCC versions, and progress is measured per function on decomp.me and through objdiff and decomp.dev. The sound library builds on work published by the Chrono Cross decompilation, and the game data documentation from the Data Crystal wiki was used as reference. Commits named with Claude Opus 5.5 trailers carry the matching and cleanup work.
Results
The core libraries and the battle program files (BATTLE, INITBTL, SCREFF2) are under way at measured percentages, and the effect programs are split into many individually tracked files with several already fully matching. The repository ships no game files and requires the player to own a copy of the disc. The stated goals are running the game on modern hardware and fixing original bugs.
