ogdanimal recompiles Skies of Arcadia Legends (GameCube) into native Windows, Linux and Android apps on a runtime built from Dolphin's hardware code, with Claude Opus 5.5 co-writing the port. The v0.51 beta released in October 2026 plays the whole game with widescreen, 60 fps and save states.
ogdanimal rebuilt Skies of Arcadia Legends (GameCube, USA GEAE8P or European GEAP8P) as native apps for Windows, Linux and Android. The v0.51 beta was live from 12 October 2026, and the commit history shows twelve commits co-authored by Claude Opus 5.5 as of 19 October. Every build needs your own game disc: nothing from the game is in the repository.
How it was done
DolRecomp, an LLVM-backed recompiler, reads the patched main.dol from the disc and translates the game's PowerPC code ahead of time into a native module. The module runs on ModernGekko, a runtime built from Dolphin's hardware code for video, audio, DSP, input and memory cards, so the game plays without the emulator driving it. The port's changes to both libraries live as patch files under patches/, re-applied by tools/apply-patches.sh and proved reproducible by tools/check-patches.sh, and BUILDING.md walks through the whole build. The repository also carries over 2,300 lines of development notes that record what was tried, what broke and what stayed untested.
Results
The beta plays the game with widescreen up to 32:9 or the original 4:3, 60 fps by frame interpolation, camera control on the world map, battle speed up to 4x, five save states with auto-save, HD texture packs, romhacks such as Maeson's rebalance, and optional Dreamcast soundtrack played from a second owned disc. Saves import from Dolphin, a GameCube memory card or another install of the port. The Retroid Pocket 5 handheld runs it at full speed at 60 fps. Known gaps are recorded in the notes: the Japanese disc is unsupported, and a few features remain hand-checked only. Licensed GPL-3.0.
