What was done

An AI agent drove a HiSilicon Hi3515 DVR over serial and telnet to build a replacement firmware that records and streams H.264 video.

abdukir turned a NetDVR RR104P, a 2011 analog CCTV recorder whose only client was an Internet Explorer plugin, into an FPV ground station. The repo says effectively all code, reverse engineering and documentation came from Claude driving the hardware, with a human setting goals.

How it was done

The agent read firmware dumps, replayed ARM ioctls, flashed NOR and tested against the live box over telnet, a serial console and an HDMI capture card. The firmware is a single freestanding C program of about 75 KB with no libc and no vendor SDK. It can run from RAM without flashing, so a power cycle restores stock firmware.

Results

The replacement captures analog video, encodes H.264 in hardware, records MPEG-TS to SATA, streams to a browser and draws its own on-screen UI, at roughly 130 ms glass to glass on VGA. The README is candid: it works on one device, has no tests, and several early claims were wrong and are kept in a review log. It contains no vendor firmware and warns that flashing can brick the unit.
