What was done

M1sterMo used Claude Code to build a browser port of GTA 2 on the community matching decompilation gta2_re, loading the official freeware release and adding browser to browser multiplayer.

GTA2 in your browser runs the 1999 game in a browser tab. The README says this port was built with Claude in Claude Code. It is not a remake: the engine is the community's matching decompilation of the original code, gta2_re.

How it was done

The decompiled code is compiled to run in the browser. The first time the user presses Play, the page downloads the official 2004 freeware release of GTA 2 from the Internet Archive, about 346 MB, unpacks it in the browser and keeps it, so later visits start quickly. Saves stay in the browser, with export and import.

Results

The README lists play in desktop Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Brave, with Safari and phones untested. Multiplayer supports up to six players, using GTA 2's own lockstep multiplayer rewired so that only key presses travel between players. It offers co-op, Gang Wars and free for all, browser to browser.
