The cxldsakeb team recompiles God of War II with PS2Recomp on the runtime that already runs the first God of War at about 60 fps. Work in progress, no game files in the repository.
A team led by cxldsakeb is statically recompiling God of War II (PS2, NTSC-U) with PS2Recomp into a native Windows program. It builds on the runtime the same team used to make the first God of War playable at around 60 fps, and a CLAUDE.md file gives Claude Code the project context. No part of the game ships: players extract their own ISO and the repository never contains game data, its code or its images.
How it was done
Phase 1 mapped 6,607 functions with 76 Sony library stubs and 240 register accesses, then the build reached the title screen, the menus and videos, with the VU1 vector unit and the IOP compiled to native code for full speed. Every blocker is logged one by one in the repository notes with its cause and fix, and 18 blockers were resolved to reach the playable zone. The runtime and recompiler live in the team own PS2Recomp fork, GPLv3 like the tool itself, and the docs double as a guide for bringing other PS2 games to PC.
Results
The game boots through its logos, title screen and menus, plays cutscenes at 30 images per second with audio in step, and reaches the first playable area on Rhodes with sound, shadows and combat at about 44 to 59 fps in combat and 60 fps in menus on a team PC. Memory card formatting, saving and loading work. Remaining work includes graphics artefacts during play, the rest of the game beyond Rhodes and stable 60 fps in combat; there is no downloadable build yet.
