What was done

Claude Code helped build a native Windows port of Chibi-Robo! by recompiling its GameCube PowerPC code to C. The current build reaches the first party scene; the project reports reference comparisons for PAL and US versions but has not verified a full playthrough or tested on a physical GameCube.

Chibi-Robo! PC translates the GameCube game’s PowerPC program into C and replaces console-specific SDK functions with native PC implementations. The goal is to run the game without emulating the GameCube’s hardware.

How it was done

The repository says most code and documentation were written with Claude Code and validated by the author. It includes tools for extracting a user-provided disc image, generating the recompiled build and comparing output with reference runs. The project reports checks against the original for images, audio and saves, with separate PAL and US game versions.

Results

The Windows build currently runs from boot through the title screen, a new game, the 3D introduction and the first party scene, including music and sound effects. Native save files and keyboard/gamepad controls are supported. The README says the full game has not been verified. Some comparisons were made with Dolphin, but coverage differs by region, and the project’s reference outputs are not published, so its regression checks cannot be repeated exactly from the public repository. Real GameCube hardware is not reported as tested.

Reproduce

Use a Windows development environment with Git, Python 3.11+, CMake 3.25+ and Visual Studio 2022 C++ tools. Run py -3 tools/bootstrap.py and py -3 tools/doctor.py, place your own supported PAL or US disc image in orig/, then run the documented tools/extract.py and tools/build.py commands. The repository includes no game data.

Reproduce it

setup
Windows build: install Git, Python 3.11+ with the py launcher, CMake 3.25+ and Visual Studio 2022 with its Desktop development with C++ workload. Run py -3 tools/bootstrap.py, then py -3 tools/doctor.py. Put your own supported GameCube disc image in orig/, run py -3 tools/extract.py chibi-robo (or add --version GGTE01 for the US version), then run py -3 tools/build.py chibi-robo (add the same version flag for US). The repository does not include game data.
