What was done
A native Linux replacement for PredatorSense traces the original Windows service’s firmware calls to reproduce fan, power, lighting and battery controls.
This project builds a native Linux replacement for Acer PredatorSense for the Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-72. The author says PredatorSense 5.0.1463 was decompiled with Ghidra and its firmware calls were traced through Acer’s Windows UI and services. The Linux software aims to reproduce those behaviors for fan control, performance modes, keyboard lighting and battery care.
Implementation and limits
The repository includes a daemon, hardware interface, kernel WMI pass-through module and Qt application. Its README describes details traced from Acer’s software, including fan grouping, keyboard zone masks and power profiles. It is marked beta, is unofficial, and warns that it changes firmware settings such as fan behavior, power limits and charging. The project is specific to the listed laptop model and should not be assumed to support other Acer devices.
AI contribution
Claude Opus 5.5 co-authored commits implementing the PredatorSense service reimplementation, the ACPI/WMI pass-through module and the Qt interface. This shows AI contributing to the reverse-engineered replacement. The README identifies the original Windows software and Ghidra analysis as the source of the observed behavior.
