A fan patch for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (USA 1.0) that enables higher frame rates on N64 hardware while maintaining original game logic speed. Developed using Claude Code and the Ocarina of Time decompilation project.
OoT HFR is a fan patch for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (USA 1.0) designed to increase frame rates on N64 hardware. The patch maintains the original game logic at 20 updates per second, ensuring the game speed remains consistent. The project was developed using Claude Code, an AI coding agent, and utilizes the Ocarina of Time decompilation project as a base. The patcher, available at requires a legally obtained USA 1.0 ROM to function. It has been tested on FPGA N64 hardware, original N64 consoles, and the ares emulator. While the patch enables higher frame rates, certain visual elements such as sword trails and specific effects continue to update at 20 frames per second. Additionally, some motion artifacts remain visible at high frame rates, including specific water textures and character animations like the Biri jellyfish tentacles.
