What was done
This project provides a native port of Pokémon SoulSilver for the New Nintendo 3DS, utilizing decompiled game code to run on the 3DS CPU with stereoscopic 3D, GPU rendering, and a custom touch screen interface. It is not an emulator and requires a user-provided ROM.
Pokémon SoulSilver New 3DS Edition is a native port of the game for the New Nintendo 3DS, built from the pret/pokeheartgold decompilation. Unlike an emulator, the game code executes directly on the 3DS CPU. The project features stereoscopic 3D, GPU-accelerated rendering, and a Johto map interface on the bottom screen. It includes a settings menu accessible via L+R+Y, with a hidden Debug tab available via SELECT. The port supports native save files and provides various quality-of-life improvements, including a shiny hunting suite and fast-text options. Development frequently involves the AI assistant Claude, which has contributed to various features such as Pokegear tab fixes, bottom menu adjustments, and sprite depth toggles. The project maintains a log file for debugging. While many features are functional, some gameplay toggles and speed tweaks were merged without hardware testing and remain untested on the device. Known issues include graphical glitches with Poké Ball animations, performance drops when using Wide FX, and potential crashes during local wireless play.
Reproduce it
Build the project using the provided scripts or the one-window patch-builder. Requires a New Nintendo 3DS with custom firmware, a legal US SoulSilver ROM, and a development environment including devkitPro and Python 3.
