What was done
peiikai directed Claude Code to statically recompile the Switch version of Link's Awakening, adding an unlocked aspect ratio, remapping and a randomizer. It is in beta and needs your own game files.
peiikai made LAS Recomp, a native macOS, Windows and Linux version of Link's Awakening (Switch, 2019) built by statically recompiling the Switch code. The README says nearly all the code, tooling, reverse engineering and documentation were written by Claude through Claude Code, with a human directing, testing and reviewing.
How it was done
The app takes the player's own extracted v1.0.0 game files and runs the recompilation locally on first launch, so no Nintendo code or assets are shipped. Rendering uses Metal with MetalFX on Apple Silicon and Vulkan on Windows and Linux, with SDL3 for input and FFmpeg for video. It is not emulation: the game code runs as native code.
Results
The beta lists an unlocked aspect ratio up to ultrawide, a remappable controller and keyboard layout, an in-game menu, optional 360-degree movement, and an in-game randomizer with shareable seeds and several shuffle modes. Known issues include crashes in a few places, lighting lines in some rooms and graphics bugs at wide ratios. The README states that instructions for obtaining game files will not be given. Its own code is MIT licensed.
