What was done

FastView-REA is a cross-platform Rust reconstruction of the Windows MFC-based Fast View 5 oscillogram analysis tool. It uses Ghidra-based reverse engineering to achieve behavioral identity with the original engine and UI.

FastView-REA is a clean-room, cross-platform reconstruction of the Fast View 5 relay-protection oscillogram and characteristic analysis tool, originally developed by НТЦ Механотроника. The project reverse-engineers both the analysis engine and the user interface, reimplementing them in Rust to provide native support for Linux, Windows, and macOS. The author reports that the goal is behavioral identity with the original application, proven against decompiled code rather than visual approximation. The UI layer was reversed using REA and Ghidra, with individual handlers for MFC message maps decompiled to determine click regions, selection rules, and command UI logic. The reconstruction uses egui for rendering the Office-2007 theme. The engine parses the original .fvb characteristic library files to plot protection boundaries in impedance or differential planes. Development is documented through a series of milestones, with commit history indicating participation from Claude Opus 5.5 as a co-author. The project remains under active development, with recent progress noted in milestone 0.7.1. Reproduce it

setup

Build requires a stable Rust toolchain (1.75+). Use 'cargo run -p fastview-gui --release' to launch the application. Headless rendering of characteristics is possible via 'cargo run -p fvb-core --example render -- 0 line_protection.png'.
