What was done

Demon's Souls Recomp converts the original PS3 game code to run natively on Windows and Linux without an emulator. The project requires user-provided game files and firmware to build.

Demon's Souls Recomp is a project that converts the original 2009 PlayStation 3 game code to run natively on Windows and Linux. The port avoids emulation by using a recompiler and runtime to translate the game's PPU and SPU code. Users must provide their own copy of the US version of the game (BLUS30443) and decrypted firmware files to perform the build process. The project is in an early state and is currently playable from the start through the first level, Boletarian Palace 1-1. Recent development includes performance improvements for SPU native blocks and fixes for render ring viewport commands. Claude Opus 5.5 is credited as a co-author on multiple commits related to these technical implementations and documentation updates. The project does not include game files, Sony firmware, or keys, and users are instructed to generate these from their own copies. The build process involves decrypting the game's EBOOT.BIN using RPCS3 and running various Python scripts to lift and patch the code. The port supports higher frame rates, ultrawide resolutions, and modern controller input. See the project README for full build instructions.

Reproduce it

setup
Clone the repository and the ps3recomp dependency. Decrypt the game's EBOOT.BIN using RPCS3. Use the provided Python scripts (ppu_loader.py, ppu_lifter.py, build_spu.py) to convert the game code. Compile the runtime and game using CMake and Ninja as documented in the repository.
