A project aiming for a byte-exact decompilation of Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven (2002) for PC, targeting versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, and Steam. The setup.exe is fully decompiled, while Game.exe and LS3DF.dll are in progress.
Mafia-RE is a project dedicated to the byte-exact decompilation of the PC version of Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven (2002). The project targets all released versions, including the original 1.0, patches 1.1 and 1.2, and the Steam release. Version 1.2 serves as the primary target, with other versions managed via macros in the source code. The goal is to produce source code that, when compiled with the original toolchains, yields binaries identical to the originals. As of the latest documentation, setup.exe is fully decompiled. The engine component, LS3DF.dll, is largely complete, with approximately 90% of its functions matching the original instructions. Development of Game.exe is ongoing, with progress focused on the game's startup sequence and main menu functionality. The project uses various historical compilers, including Visual C++ 6.0 and Visual C++ 2008 SP1. Recent development commits credit Claude Opus 5.5 as a co-author for contributions to the codebase. The project is hosted at https://raw.githubusercontent.com/marvisak/mafia-re/HEAD/README.md.
