What was done
dadtool is a Windows CLI that bypasses in-game calibration by writing beat-sync data directly into Dead as Disco save metadata. It supports song importing, lyric generation for the Marquee HUD mod, and procedural challenge creation.
dadtool is a Windows CLI utility that performs offline beat tracking and song importing for the game Dead as Disco. The tool analyzes audio tracks to generate beat-sync data, including tempo, beat offsets, and tempo-change sections, which it writes directly into the game's per-song Meta.json files. This process replaces the game's built-in auto-BPM estimation and manual tap-calibration tools. The author reports that the generated grids are approximately twice as precise as manual tapping and maintain sync without drift. The project was developed with the assistance of an AI Large Language Model. The repository commit history credits Antigravity as a co-author on numerous commits. The tool also integrates with the Marquee HUD mod to fetch and generate synced .lrc lyrics, including support for Romaji transliteration. Additional features include procedural challenge generation, playlist management, and loudness normalization to -14 LUFS. The tool includes safety mechanisms such as game-running detection, automatic save folder backups, and write verification by re-reading the metadata. The software is validated against Steam build 25902913. Documentation is available at https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sudravirodhin/dadtool-importer/HEAD/README.md.
Reproduce it
Install Python 3.12 and create a virtual environment. Create a separate conda environment with PyTorch for the beat tracker. Configure paths in dad_config.json. Run commands via ..venv\Scripts\python.exe -m dadtool.cli <command>.
