A Home Assistant integration for the ThermoPro TP920W thermometer, enabling local temperature monitoring via Bluetooth without dedicated firmware. The project includes GATT handshake logic, sensor entities, and cook-logic examples, though it remains in early, unverified status.
The PaleFlyer/Thermopro_TP920W project provides a custom Home Assistant integration for the ThermoPro TP920W dual-probe Bluetooth thermometer. The integration facilitates local, cloud-free temperature streaming by replicating the official application's startup handshake via Home Assistant's native Bluetooth stack. No dedicated ESP32 firmware is required, as the integration utilizes existing Bluetooth adapters or ESPHome Bluetooth proxies. The author reports that the protocol was reverse-engineered by capturing Bluetooth traffic from a physical device. The implementation includes GATT handshake logic, probe and battery sensors, a connection management switch, and an example cook-logic package for Home Assistant. Development credits include PaleFlyer and Claude Sonnet 5.5. The project is currently in an early, unverified state; while the protocol is unit-tested against captured data, it has not been tested in a live Home Assistant environment. Known limitations include the inability to read sub-zero temperatures, unknown behavior when probes are unplugged, and a requirement for exclusive connection, meaning the official mobile app cannot connect while Home Assistant is active.
