Coney is a native C++ reimplementation of the 2005 game The Warriors, built by reverse engineering the PS2 and Xbox versions. It aims to run the game natively on Windows, Linux, and macOS without using original game code or data.
Coney is an open-source reimplementation of the 2005 game The Warriors for Windows, Linux, and macOS. The project is built primarily through reverse engineering the original PS2 version, which serves as the reference for gameplay mechanics, while the Xbox port is utilized as a secondary source for rendering and assets. The developers emphasize that Coney is a functional reimplementation rather than a decompilation or static recompilation, meaning new C++ code is written to replicate the original's behavior, timings, and mathematics. Contributors utilize Ghidra for static analysis and PCSX2's debugger for runtime verification, ensuring each ported function is compared side-by-side with the original. The project is currently in development and is not yet a complete game. It supports running levels and front-end menus, though it requires the user to provide their own game data. The project explicitly welcomes contributions from both human developers and AI agents, providing specific instructions for AI participation. Documentation is maintained in the repository, including guides for development and research findings. Source: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ryubara/coney/HEAD/README.md
Reproduce it
Clone the repository, run the bootstrap script, and use CMake with the 'dev' preset to build the executable. The game requires a valid copy of the original game data (disc, ISO, or folder) to run.
