What was done

rockenrooster Smash64DS_Port combines the BattleShip decompilation game logic with a DS backend and builds a playable NDS file from your own ROM, about 75 percent complete with multiplayer still ahead.

rockenrooster Smash64DS_Port takes the game logic reconstructed by the BattleShip decompilation project and hosts it on a Nintendo DS backend, producing a playable .nds build from the NTSC-U Super Smash Bros. ROM you supply. Its commit history carries Co-Authored-By: Claude trailers, so AI agents helped build the port. The repository tracks no Nintendo assets and the build generates any derived data only on your computer.

How it was done

A build script downloads pinned dependencies, checks the ROM by SHA-1, regenerates the required assets locally and compiles with the devkitARM toolchain, with Hydr8gon Super Mario 64 DS port as an architectural reference for hosting a N64 game on the DS. A project goal document keeps fidelity targets and definition of done tracked, and a pinned decompilation source supplies the reconstructed game code the port builds on.

Results

As of early October 2026 all twelve fighters and stages, all items, the full title and menu flow and the complete 1P campaign are playable start to finish, with four-fighter matches on one console at one human plus three CPUs, verified on real Nintendo DS hardware and recorded on an emulator for capture. Rough edges stay listed: frame rate can dip in four-fighter matches, some freezes and audio glitches remain and true DS wireless multiplayer is the planned next phase, along with training mode, the ending and character unlocks.
