Nds Game Studio is a Rust engine using Bevy 0.20 that runs decompiled Nintendo DS games natively on PC. It features a launcher, asset viewer for NitroFS formats, and live code recompilation, avoiding emulation entirely.
Nds Game Studio is a native game engine written in Rust using Bevy 0.20. The project aims to run games designed for the Nintendo DS on PC without emulation. Instead, it relies on the decompilation of game code and a custom runtime. The engine supports dual-screen layouts, DS button mapping, and stylus input. Rendering occurs at native quality, including real-time window resolution and MSAA x4 anti-aliasing, while maintaining the original 256x192 pixel logic. The studio includes a launcher for managing ROMs and a dedicated asset viewer (F6) for inspecting NitroFS files, including 3D models (NSBMD) and 2D images (NCGR/NCLR/NSCR/NCER). The asset viewer reads directly from ROM files without requiring extraction. Development features include live code editing where changes trigger background recompilation and automatic game reloading. The project documentation credits Claude Opus 5.5 as a co-author for various components, including the launcher, asset viewer, and internationalization support. The engine is currently in an experimental phase, with source code available at https://raw.githubusercontent.com/liolu/nds-game-studio/HEAD/README.md.
