ProjectStonehenge is a native x86_64 PC port of Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies, built by translating PS2 game code into C++ with extensive AI assistance. It supports modern resolutions and frame rates while requiring a user-provided NTSC-U ISO.
ProjectStonehenge is a native x86_64 PC port of the PlayStation 2 title Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies (NTSC-U, SLUS-20152). The project README documents that the port is not an emulator or a static recompilation; instead, the original game code was translated function-by-function into C++. The developer reports that this process relied on extensive use of generative AI, specifically models from Anthropic, to write the reverse-engineering notes, research tools, and the majority of the codebase. ProjectStonehenge provides features such as unlocked frame rates up to 360 FPS, internal resolution scaling up to 4K, and widescreen support. While the project aims to preserve game logic and physics, user feedback on social media contains conflicting claims regarding the nature of the port, with some users characterizing it as emulation-based, a claim not supported by the project's technical documentation. The port currently requires a legally obtained NTSC-U ISO dump and is limited to Windows 10/11. Unused code and cut content from the original PS2 release are included in the build, though they remain largely unreachable in the current version.
From the source
Reproduce it
1. Clone the repository and use CMake to configure the build for Windows. 2. Provide a valid NTSC-U SLUS-20152 ISO dump. 3. Run the generated executable, pointing it to the ISO file via the command line or settings.json.
