About SNESRecomp
SNESRecomp is a static-recompilation framework designed to port Super Nintendo and Super Famicom software to native applications. It works by translating 65816 machine code into C, which is then built around a shared hardware runtime. For code that has not yet been resolved during the porting process, the framework provides an interpreter tier to maintain functionality. The framework supports a variety of modern enhancements for ported titles, including adaptive widescreen (fit-to-window), MSU-1 high-quality music, save states, and rewind capabilities. It also facilitates advanced features like local and online co-op with rollback netplay, and runtime translations that replace text and tile assets in memory without modifying the original ROM on disk. While the framework is in beta, it has been used to create ports for titles such as *Mega Man X*, *Super Metroid*, and *F-Zero*. Setup and porting are manual processes that do not require AI, though some development commits indicate the use of AI for co-authoring specific code changes.
